* The silver medallist sprinter Raelene Boyle pulled out of the Australian Olympic team for Moscow, citing personal rather than political reasons. Eric McRae, a member of the Australian Olympic Federation's 11-man executive, which voted 6-5 to send a team to Moscow, also dropped out. McRae, president of the Tasmanian Olympic Council, said Australia should not be represented. "I don't believe that the Games should be held in a country at war and an invading nation," he said.
