10 Things I Don't Put On My Cv Tim Bamford

Tim Bamford is chief executive of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and the father of two teenage daughters.
1 The worst job I've had was working at Gatwick Airport cleaning aeroplanes. Twelve-hour shifts, cleaning everything inside the plane . . . including the toilets.2 My first role with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation was as engineering manager. In my first week, I had a meeting with our cleaning contractor who told me the corporation could save $15,000 by standardising on one type of toilet paper at our event, rather than the 17 types being used at the time. It was at this point that I realised I had truly "made it".3 At the age of six, I wanted to be a train driver.4 My first job was at an amusement park on the beach in Aberdeen, Scotland. I was the attendant on the dodgem cars. I got paid 45 pence per hour.5 I have a serious aversion to hosting teenage parties. Dealing with teenagers, parties and loud music . . . by comparison, staging a Grand Prix can seem easy.6 There are probably only 19 or 20 days of the year that I'm not the first person in the office, somewhere between 5.30am-7am. 7 One of my first bosses taught me not to be afraid to take a big step if one is needed. You can't cross a chasm in two small jumps.8 I ride my bike to work nearly every morning.9 When I started with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation I didn't know how hard I was going to have to work and probably wouldn't have thought I was capable . . . I have a much, much greater work capacity than I ever thought.10 I never really had a plan. I did my best with every opportunity and followed the path in front of me. If I was starting again, I would do exactly the same. -- LISA MITCHELL
